Like any sport, rallying has had its fair share of dominating drivers and teams. In the past 20 years, only three championships were won by people other than Sebastien Loeb and Sebastien Ogier. While we remember the dominance of those two drivers, often times we overlook the cars they were driving, and the fact that one in particular proved all conquering and unbeatable during its time in the World Rally Championship.

The Citroen C4 WRC was introduced for the 2007 World Championship, replacing the previously successful Citroen Xsara WRC. The C4 came at a time where Citroen were at their peak in Rallying, having dominated the Drivers and Manufacturers Championship for the previous years. With Sebastien Loeb and co-driver Daniel Elena at the helm, the C4 would start strong at the Monte Carlo Rally where it dominated from start to finish with little competition from any of the other teams competing. It seemed that this victory would only be first the four years of competition that the C4 would enter.

The C4 WRC is undoubtedly one of the most successful cars in the history of rallying. It took 3 constructors championships, 4 drivers championships, 36 wins and 87 podiums. For added benefit, it proved itself to be even more successful on the asphalt events of the World Rally Championship, maintaining a 100% winning record on all 13 pure asphalt rounds of the championship in it’s 4 years of competition.

Sure, it’s not as exhilarating to think about as a Group B car or as stylish and outlandish as a Lancia Stratos, but the proof is in the pudding for this car. It’s domineering hold on the World Rally Championship and its contribution to the history of its most successful driver owes this car a spot in the Hall of Fame for great rally cars.
